Decades ago, station wagons ruled the roads as family cars. Then they became uncool, and families bought minivans. Then those became uncool, and people bought SUVs. Then, those went out as well, and people flocked to a new type of car that combined all 3: the crossover. Now, it's easy to point out cool wagons and SUVs, and as we saw today, even !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . But what's the coolest crossover? Keep in mind, crossovers are trying so hard to give people the pluses of a minivan, the driving dynamics of a wagon, and the rugged looks of an SUV that it's hard to call many of them cool. Bloated maybe, but not cool. So are there any cool ones? These can be traditional modern crossovers like the Chrysler Pacifica, which I think kickstarted the crossover craze, or examples of past cars that you think count (Ex: The AMC Eagle 4x4 Wagon, which has now been said). There have to be some out there, right?

paradox. Crossovers cannot be cool.

Drugs! I drive on of these for work (The Chevy Captiva) and... eg. Although better than the other two work cars, a Equinox (dead) and a Chrysler Minivan.
Pros - Satellite radio demo won't die! Yay!

I'm going to use the term crossover very loosely.

The Captiva probably has the 4-cyl in it though? I rarely see ones that have the 3.6

That's a contender. Those things are supposed to be a blast to drive!

An interesting choice. Redline, I presume?

I think there's a few that might be, although I suppose this is technically subjective.

Unconventional cars count! This is oppo, after all.

The Mercedes ML63 AMG is pretty badass.

Yessir. Best CUV on offer by GM back then if you ask me.

There where others?!?! (Not counting badge twins)

Yep, 4 cyl and fwd.
For what it is: tight steering and decently stiff suspension are nice. Everything else just feels like a cheap SUV.
Not to pick on your choice: but I think the Honda Fit or a Mazda 5 sandwich this niche pretty well and are both better picks. Although this is the best looking of the 3.
Also, Eco mode! Holy crap do I hate that eco mode. It is everything I hate about an automatic dialed to 12!

Technically the same thing with a different body on it, but the Vue had some improvements (like interior and comfort) that made it better than this or the Equinox

Yup

Here's a little something I learned, the 4 cylinders got electric power steering while V6s get hydraulic steering. No eco mode on the Vue! Plus slapshift rather than toggles.

It can beat an S2K in a straight line while carrying four kids, a dog and some luggage. I've seen people who daily drive them whilst pushing 800hp. It also looks super badass and has endless modding potential. I still consider it a crossover because it's smaller than Tahoe. Beat that.

I would like to find one of these to drive sometime soon.

If I had to roll "Soccer mom" style, I'd totally do it in one of these:

it's still snowing here so this would be pretty cool.

I'll give you that it's a pretty crossover. Prettier than nearly all other crossovers. It will be good. But - due to the mass - no where near as good as the F-Type or the XFR-S. It's a less-good sports car, which is totally not cool.
Though it's also no where near as dumb as the X6, so bonus points for that.

Does the Suzuki SX4 count as a crossover

Perhaps I'm a bit bias because my wife and I are buying one later this year, but I actually think the CX-5 is pretty cool. A good blend of power, efficiency and usability all rolled into one spunky package.

Why not just buy a car instead of a car on a lift kit that just ruins its handling..?
